About 9 AM on Tuesday September 24th 2024, the group met up in Vantage for the annual Moses Lake Sand Dunes trip. Odo’s JKU wasn’t running right, so he had to go back to Yakima for parts. We convoyed with four rigs (2 YJs, 1 LJ, & a Bronco) to the Moses Lake Sand Dunes ORV Area and got there around 10 AM. We aired down at the gravel pit and then hit the dunes.
Around noon we met up with Odo and headed out. At the South Pole we took a break. After the break we headed into the Yellow Zone (Potholes Reservoir and Mud Flats). The Yellow Zone area has a season closure form October 1st through July 1st. We always try to come the last weekend before the closure since the water is lower and the weather is not to hot.
We worked our way around the Potholes with some water crossing to get out to the open reservoir to play on the beach. We followed Crab Creek having fun running the beach. Odo got too close to the edge and got sucked into the water. He tried to cross the water and got stuck. He tried to winch to SkyDriver’s LJ, but his winch was having issues. SkyDriver turned his rig around and used his winch to pull Odo’s JKU out of the mud. SkyDriver decided to see if he could make it across a mud bog in his LJ. He didn’t make it. Odo pulled SkyDriver’s rig back out of the mud.
We made it back to Sand Dunes Road around 3 PM. Doc got rocks in one of his tire beads and had to get them out since the tire was loosing air. That happen when drifting into a hole with low PSI. SkyDriver headed home and the rest of us headed out to some of the bigger sand dunes to play a little longer. We played out there until 4:30 PM or so and headed back out to the road. Once on Sand Dune Road, we drove over to Love’s. There we topped off and aired up for home.
This was a great trip with a lot of fun thanks to all who came.
