On Friday February 18th 2022 we headed up to Beverly Dunes from the Graham Family Farm in Selah with the F350 w/Shasta Camper pulling Santa’s Sleigh (93 YJ) on the car trailer and Doc following with Dixie (95 YJ). A little before 3 PM we pulled into camp. Mr. Miyagi and wife pulled in right after us. Dwain came shortly after that. After we set up camp, we sat around the camp fire. Later in the evening Charlie pulled in with his girlfriend and Odo. A little later Hank, his wife and two kids got into camp. No new people came to camp. It was just the normal group and their families. It was a nice evening.
Saturday morning we woke up to it being cold and the wind blowing. We sat around inside the pop ups. We had two Overland Bound Members show up for the Meet & Greet. First JL Lou came few awhile and then left not long before G.Goodwin showed up with his wife and kids. Dave showed up for awhile.
In the afternoon G.Goodwin aired down to go wheel the dunes. We joined him on the trip. Out on the dunes Doc’s locker in the Dixie Jeep broke. We headed back to camp. G.Goodwin aired up for home.
We headed out into the dunes again around 3 PM. Doc rode with me & Odo. Hank’s side x side was having issue with the belt so he could not play much. Charlie’s ZJ had a hard time keeping the tires on the ground and we were lucky to get back to camp before he broke something.
Sunday it was cold and windy again. I ran out of propane in the middle of the night and the fan killed the camper battery. I have to get that solar installed soon.
With the weather being crappy, we decided to pack up and go home. Doc had to load his YJ on the trailer and drive my YJ home. Coming into Ellensburg the wind lighted up. Once in the Yakima River Canyon the sun was out and it was nice the rest of the way home in Selah.
This was a fun trip thanks to all who came. We are planning to keep this as an annual event, but the location may change.
Winter 4×4 Meet & Greet History: We held the Slab ORV Meet & Greet in February for 15 time as an annual event skipping years due to the Governor’s lock down. The following month we held the Slab ORV Area Clean Up with the Yakima Valley Dust Dodgers Motorcycle Club. In 2021 the Slab ORV Area owners decided not to allow 4 wheel vehicles to use the area anymore. It was bought many years ago to race dirt bikes on. To respect their wishes, we decide not to ever go back. We wanted to continue having the meet and greet and made the name for the event to move to where ever. The Slab name was replaced with “Winter”. We dropped ORV and changed it to “4×4” in case the location was at a place where only street vehicles where allowed. This first year was at Beverly Dunes. We may continue the event there or may try another place. The whole idea is to meet other people with the same interest (we are a 4×4 overland group) and see others you like hanging out with.
