Clover Springs 4×4 Trip

On Sunday, July 21st 2024, Eastern Washington Off Road had a 4×4 trip up the Clover Springs Trail and then to Little Bald Mountain.
The group meet up across from the Wood Shed around 11 AM and then headed up to Sawmill Flats to air down. Airing down, Mr. Wilson found a bolt stuck in his tire, so he swapped it out with the spare.
The group headed up FS1600 and onto the Clover Springs 4×4 Trail (4W697). A wildfire went through the area burning a lot of the trees where the trail runs.
The first section of the trail has a steep and then steeper drop down. The powder dirt made things a little hairy. My Jeep sled a lot. At one point I was pointed off the trail and had to go around a tree on the wrong side. There is no backing up the steep hill in powder.
At the bottom of the steep hill we stopped for a break to give the dogs some water.
We moved on down the trail. The second and third water crossing had big rocks on one side where my little YJ hit some on the bottom a few times.
It was mainly up hill after the third water crossing. We stopped for lunch in the shade where the trees where not burnt.
Moving up the trail we went back into the burnt forest. At the wilderness boundary Odo’s transmission linkage came off and he had to put it back on. It came back off a few more times during the trip.
The last hill climb before Clover Springs, Doc put a hole in his new radiator. Mr. Wilson had some putty that worked to fix the hole.
The next stop was on Little Bald Mountain. We took a break and took in the view for what we could see in the haze.
We headed down FS1600 and stopped to air up on FS1601 near the creek to water the dogs.
This was a very fun trip thanks to who all came.
