Dayton & Back Around Road Trip

The last time my wife and I took a long road trip without the kids was March 2019 and the Jeep JKU’s engine blew up. So on Saturday March 26th 2022 we decided to take a road trip in the wife’s Mustang GT to Dayton and around to see what there is to do on some of the Eastern Washington Overland road trips.
It was over two years since we went out for breakfast, so we first stopped to eat at Denny’s in Union Gap.
Long car rides are hard on my back, so we stopped a few times just to walk around. The first break stop was at the rest area in Prosser. The next break was in Prescott.
In Dayton was stopped for a photo with The Giant on the Hill and then stopped at Blue Mountains Station. At Blue Mountain Station we took a walk around looking at the shops.
The next stop was at Dayton Historic Depot. The Depot was turned into a museum featuring items and history of the area. In the gift shop the cargo scale still works. You can go up stairs and see the living quarters. This is a very cool building. It is a must see if you are in the area.
Next to the depot is the Caboose Park. Yes there is a caboose.
We decided to go get something to eat. We first topped off the Mustang’s gas tank and then drove over to Chief Spring’s Fire & Brew Pub. We ordered a pizza and some brews. The food, beer, and service was great.
After lunch we headed out. We drove the backroads through the hills and came out in Starbuck. At Starbuck we headed the long way towards home through Kahlotus, Connell, Othello, Royal City, and Beverly. We stopped at Turbine Park at Wanapum Dan for a break. Then we drove north and got onto I-90 west.
At Ellensburg we stopped and had dinner at The Palace Cafe & Saloon. The food and service was good.
After dinner we headed home in Selah. This was a very fun trip.
