Army Base Race
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Adventures – Selah Community & Tourism.
On Saturday September 19th, 2015 at Carlon Park, there was the annual Army Base Race 1/2 Marathon and 5k put on by the City of Selah Parks & Recreation and Yakima Training Center. The race distances were ½ Marathon (13.1 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles). This event happens on the 3rd Saturday in September of each year while the Japanese Army is at the Yakima Training Center for training.
Many people of the Japanese Army along with the U.S. Army and civilians did the race which ran from Carlon Park to the Army Base and back.
Afterward the Army Base Race participants had breakfast prepared from the Selah Chamber of Commerce.
Selah Cub Scout Pack 276 keep the area cleaned up and the Japanese Soldiers had fun taking photos with them.
There were some fun things at the race. The Army had two trucks, a bomb suit and robot to look at. There were inflatables for the children to play in. The Army set off a canon and a helicopter came over at the start of both races.
This was a very fun Selah event.
See Selah Parks & Recreation for more information about the Army Base Race.
