On Thursday September 2nd 2021 we left the Eastern Washington Expeditions Club House in Selah at 10 AM with two Jeeps with 4 people and two dogs. We convoyed toward the Little Naches area. We went through the Wenas Valley and dropped into the Town of Naches. The smoke was thick from the Schneider Springs Fire.

We turned off SR410 an headed up NF19. We stopped at Lost Meadow for a break and then checked out some campsites.

Making our way over Green Pass to the Greenwater Area with a lunch stop on top.

Down at SF70 we headed east and then stopped at the end of the Historic Naches Trail. The trailhead looks way different since they built it in the early 1990s. The forest has grown up around it.

We continued up FS70, turned up FS7080, and then turned east on Naches Pass Trail. We stopped at the Pacific Crest Trail crossing AKA Government Meadows for a break. There were a lot of hikers that came through as we were there.

We kept heading east on the Naches Pass Trail. At the Naches Pass sign people have caused a lot of damage to the trail by playing in the mud. There are some real deep holes now. Mudding on Forest Service land is illegal and causes closures. You see them doing it, let them know we don’t want our trails closed because of their actions.

Down at FS1914 we turned off the Naches Pass Trail and headed back home.

This was a great day in the mountains.

Cispus River off FS2160 Thursday August 26th 2021;

Another great morning waking up to the sound of the Cispus River. Odo made breakfast and then broke down camp.

Around 11:15 AM we headed out FS2160. We turned southwest on FS21. We stopped at Cat Creek Camp. There was a lot of room for dispersed camping there. We are guessing for rigs with trailers bringing in toys for the ORV trails.

We headed on out FS21 and then north on FS23. Our last stop before leaving the back roads of Gifford Pinochet National Forest was at Layser Cave. After seeing the cave we aired up there for the trip home.

We stopped in Randle to fuel up and have lunch. Gas we $3.99 per gallon. That is 10 cents more than it was there on July 12th.

We headed east on US12. The two rigs from Selah stopped at the rest area and Dave kept going. After the restroom break we continued east on US12. After Packwood we turn off US12 and ran Cayuse Pass and then Chinook Pass back to Eastern Washington. As we dropped farther into Eastern Washington, the wildfire smoke got thicker.

Passing through Nile we saw a helicopter near the Wood Shed in Nile getting water for the Schneider Springs Fire.

This was a great overland trip thanks to all who went.

Cispus River off FS23 Wednesday August 25th 2021; waking up in my warm Jeep in the forest with the sound of a river running is one of the greatest feelings in my book.

Odo made us a filling breakfast and then we packed up camp. Around 10 AM we headed out. We went north on FS23 and then took FS21. We stopped at Cat Creek Campground to check it out.

Next we continued east on FS21 and then turned north on FS78. About four miles up we turn off on FS7807 and drove up to Mud Lake. Mud Lake was peaceful. Shelby our Black Lab had fun watching the little frogs jump. After a short break we back tracked out to FS78 and continued north.

A few more miles up, we tried to go up to Bishop Mountain on FS7802 but the brush along the road was over grown. We followed tracks from another rig and thought the trail would get better. The brush just got thicker as we went. We push on until we found a wide spot to turn around. We had lunch there and then headed back down.

We continued on FS78 for about another mile and then turn east on FS22. About two and a half miles we found the Yozoo Creek waterfall. We stopped for a quick look and headed on. Next stop was miles away at a Mount Adams Viewpoint on FS22. The view would have been better without the haze.

We run FS22 to the end and turned south on FS21. We then took a left on FS2160 and ran it to Walupt Lake. At Walupt Lake we took a break and walked down to see the water. It was getting to be dinner time so we headed out to find a camp for the night.

We headed back down FS2160 and found a great spot to camp on the Cispus River. Odo made us a big dinner. Was sat around the propane fire into the night. It was easy to fall asleep with the sound of the river.
