On Monday December 7th, 2020, Eastern Washington Expeditions staff took a drive out at the Wenas Wildlife Area near Selah to test Charlie’s ZJ’s power running a way taller tire.

We aired down at the Sheep Company entrance and then headed up. We ran Durr Road and turned off to see the new shooting range on the way. Looks a lot safer than the old range. I just hope people take care of it this time.

Next we turned up Bull Pasture Road. Up on the hill they had a tractor doing some work. I believe they were seeding the burnt areas from the Evan Canyon Fire with native grasses to prevent weeds from taking over for the wildlife.

We worked our we to and up Bell Tel Road to the top of Umtanum Ridge. We drove over to the towers hoping for a view of Ellensburg. At the towers you could not see very far. We did see a little blue in the sky for a few minutes.

We headed down Durr Road and then cut back over the Bull Pasture Road to do the hill climbs. We worked our way back out to Sheep Company Road and aired up for home.

This was a fun little trip. Looks like Charlie just might be looking to buy some 33s.

On Wednesday December 2nd, 2020, the Graham Family’s Santa & Elves drove around Yakima, Union Gap, and Selah to bring Christmas cheer.

About the Christmas Characters:
Since 2015 the Graham Family has dressed up as Christmas Characters to bring free Christmas Spirit to the community. This year they have a Jeep named, “Santa’s Sleigh” they are driving around. Normally they go to events and visit small businesses. Due to the Governor’s mandates this cannot happen this year. There are no gathering events and they do not want small businesses to get fines since they are not wearing mask. Random locations are posted on the facebook when they are out driving around.

Christmas Tree 4×4 Trip

On Saturday November 28th, 2020 (Thanksgiving Weekend), Liberty State Overland Club members met up at Oak Creek Ace Hardware in Naches. The Graham Family Farm Christmas Characters (Santa & two Elves) were there giving out candy canes and taking photos with whomever came by.

At 10:30 AM we convoyed to the Nile Area. We headed up FS1702 and aired down at a pull off past the residential area. We ran FS1702 up the mountain. The snow got deeper as we went. Up high we followed some snow blown older tracks. My low rider YJ, Santa’s Sleigh did well breaking trail.

We turned up 4W675 which starts out with a long hill climb. Santa’s Sleigh just kept going until we hit a section where others had slid off the trail. I thought we were done for, but I backed up a little and went for it again. We got traction, and up to the top we went. The other rigs followed.

We pushed on up the trail. It started getting wild farther we went up. We had to blow through a few snow drifts. I stopped right before the trail dropped down again. TJ40 called over the radio he had slid off the off camber section and had to winch back on the trail. Charlie (in the last rig) called on the CB and said he was sliding backwards down one the the hill climbs. So we decide to turn around and go back down. We found Charlie stuck where he slid backwards down the hill. TJ40 pulled him out and we were on our way back down.

Down on the FS1702, we turned up a side road to go find a Christmas Tree. It was a great snow wheeling challenge since there were no packed tire tracks to follow until we hit a cross road. We found a Christmas Tree and headed back to FS1702 and down stopping twice for pictures. We aired back up where we had air down earlier.

This was a fun event thanks to all who came.
