On Wednesday August 15th, 2012 Foxracer and I headed out from the Naneum Ridge State Forest Backroads Trip parting from Toy Man near Wenatchee to continue our Eastern Washington adventure around the Leavenworth area.

We stopped in the town Leavenworth around 5:30 PM. We parked at the Northeast side of town and walked through the Bavarian village to the München Haus for dinner. It was nice to sit in the biergarten under the misters on this hot day.

After dinner we wen back to our rigs to get our growlers and then got them topped of at the Icicle Brewery.

Next we head out of town on Icicle Road to go find a campsite. We found a very cool campsite near the end of the road.

On Thursday August 16th, 2012 Foxracer and I headed back through Leavenworth to go explore some backroads Northeast of town.

We headed up Darby Canyon Road (FS7400) from Peshastin and drove up to Chumstick Mountain. The views was great. After a short break and cell calls to our families, we headed back down the mountain to US-2 by the way of FS7415 & FS7412. This route dropped us near Cashmere.

Once on US-12 we drove back toward Leavenworth. I stopped in Leavenworth for lunch and Foxracer continued over the pass to the west side.

Jeffs_62 met me in Leavenworth to visit awhile before I had to leave for a DNR Recreation Committee meeting in Wenatchee.

A little after 5 PM I headed for the meeting in Wenatchee. I got to the meeting place to find out the meeting had been canceled due to the Taylor Bridge Fire in the Ellensburg Area. Some of the people on the committee live in the fire zone. The DNR did call me the day before while I was at the Naneum Ridge State Forest and left me a voice mail. My phone did not show I had a message until I turn it off and then back on again.

Since there was no meeting I headed back toward my home in Selah by the way of Quincy.

On the way I stopped to in Kittitas for some diesel at the Shell Station I filled up at the day before. It was Taco Thursday at Curly’s II so I headed into Kittitas for dinner. Ron the Parts Guy came and joined me for a couple of beers.

This was a great trip! Thanks for leading the way Foxracer. Thank you Jeff and Ron for coming to visit as I was near your areas.

Around 10 AM on Wednesday August 15th, 2012 Foxracer and I from Eastern Washington Adventures and Toy Man from Pacific Northwest Backroad Adventures met up at the Shell Station in Kittitas for the Naneum Ridge State Forest Backroads Run.

Foxracer lead the way to the Naneum Ridge State Forest and we headed in on Coleman Road. We went up Dawson Canyon, turned up Boulder Road, did a loop around part of the Naneum Basin, up Swift Creek Road and then up to Wenatchee Mountain.

The views from Wenatchee Mountain were great. Off the North side you can see Wenatchee and the South you can see Ellensburg. Ellensburg was hard to see because of the smoke from the Taylor Bridge Fire. Along the top of the ridge to the Northwest you could be Mission Ridge Ski Area.

Next we headed Southeast across Naneum Ridge and turn down Jumpoff Ridge. Down at the end near the pavement we took in the view of Wenatchee before dropping down into town.

Toy Man headed back home to Oregon and we headed onto part two of the trip: Leavenworth Overland Trip – Aug 16 2012

This was a very fun day thanks to the guys who came. I can’t wait to do and run there.

Little Rattlesnake Jeep Trip
Report by Clay Graham
Photos by Clay Graham & Doc Graham

Around 10 AM Sunday August 12th, 2012 Eastern Washington Adventures members met up at The Wood Shed in Nile Valley for the Little Rattlesnake 4×4 Run. Only three rigs made this run: Ceg (CJ5), The Middle Kid (CJ3A) and Issytj (TJ).

We convoyed to up FS1500 and aired down at the gravel. We turned on FS1503 and then run FS1501 to the end where the Little Rattlesnake 4×4 Trailhead (4W680) is.

The Little Rattlesnake 4×4 Trail was very dusty. The trail did not seem as tight as it was two years ago when I ran it with my same CJ5. I saw where some trees were cut down and some by-passes were made. If people don’t want to dent their rigs, they should not be on a trail that is meant for vehicles not to exceed 75 inches in width and a wheelbase not to exceed 95 inches in length. It is very sad to see people are screwing it up for others.

Once at the end of the Little Rattlesnake 4×4 Trail, we went up to Timberwolf Mountain. We really did not have a good view because it was hazy.

Next we headed over to 4W325 and ran it. We took 4W671 down and stopped at Bear Lake.

After a break at Bear Lake, we ran down to US12 next to the Oak Creek Feeding Station to air up for home.

This was a great of fun thanks to all who came.

Eastern Washington Adventures
Short & Dirty 4×4 Trail
By Clay & Charlie Graham / CegPics.com

Around 10 AM Saturday August 11th, 2012 Eastern Washington Adventures members met up at the Ahtanum Winter Recreation Trailhead for the Short & Dirty 4×4 Trail Run.

We headed up the Ahtanum Middle Fork Road and stopped for the view on Darland Mountain.

Next we headed down and turned onto the Blue Lake Trail, past Blue Lake and up 4W615 to Blue Slide Lookout for a break.

We ran FS1020 and turned down the Short & Dirty 4×4 Trail (4W637).

The Short & Dirty 4×4 Trail was very fun and scary at the same time. The off camber was extreme. When you thought you were at the most off camber you could be at, there was a bump or rock on the high side or hole on the lower side. The rear tire of my CJ5 came off the ground a few time. It happen to other rigs too. The last section of the Short & Dirty 4×4 Trail was very steep down hill and very off camber. That section seemed to run forever. This has to be the first trail that I have said that I was glad to be at the end of.

This was a very fun day thanks to those who came.

Eastern Washington Adventures Summer Meet & Greet – Aug 4 2012

2012 Eastern Washington Adventures Summer Meet & Greet
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On Saturday August 4th, 2012 we had the 2012 Eastern Washington Adventures Summer Meet & Greet at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah, Washington. This event was hosted by Yakima/Kittitas Forest Watch (The Non-Profit division of Eastern Washington Adventures).

The day was very hot and the turn out was smaller than years past. We had a lot of fun and the potluck was very good.

The evening cooled down nice and Charlie kept the music flowing.

On Sunday morning we had coffee before the campers headed out.

Thank you to everyone for coming out and making this a fun event again this year.

A special thank you to Jeff from Complete Cabin Care for donating another $100 toward the Forest Watch Volunteer Program.

Here are a few photos of the event:

Jeff came early and we enjoyed his company.
