Palouse Falls Overland Road Trip
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road

Report & photos by Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On Monday, May 15th, 2017, Eastern Washington Off Road hosted a overland road trip for the Eastern Washington Adventures Club. Three vehicles with members met up in Vantage, WA at 10 AM. We convoyed across the Columbia River on I-90 and headed east on SR26. We stopped at the Hatton Coulee Rest Area just past US395 to met two more members in their truck & camper.

We all continued on SR26 and then turned onto SR261 in Washtucna. We ran SR261 to Palouse Falls. We stopped to see the water fall and have lunch.

After lunch we ran SR261 south to Lyons Ferry State Park. We took a walk through the park to look at the old ferry and then over to the Snake River.

After our hike through Lyons Ferry State Park, we continued south across the Snake River Bridge aka Lyons Ferry Bridge. We turned off of SR261 at Starbuck, WA and ran the back roads to US12 near Dayton, WA. We headed west though Dayton and stopped to camp at Lewis and Clark Trail State Park.

We set up our two camps at Lewis and Clark Trail State Park, then took a hike in that park. We took the trail and walk down to the Touchet River which runs along the north board of Lewis and Clark Trail State Park. We watched crop dusters flying around the park. We hike on around the trail to the park entrance and then crossed US12 to the day use area of the park. The day use part of the park had a lot of historic information signs telling about Lewis and Clark’s adventure. After reading the signs and letting the kids play some, we headed back across the highway. Some went to start dinner and the rest of us finished off the trail back to camp. We head a potluck dinner around the campfire and then enjoyed the warm night.

The next morning we woke up to everything being wet. The rain had moved into the area. We packed up camp and parted ways.

Wenas Recreation Area Camp Out & Clean Up
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures and the Department of Natural Resources.
Sponsored by Selah Sweets
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / CegPics.com & Flint Buchman.

On Thursday, May 4th, 2017, my son Doc and I headed up to BBQ Flats at the Wenas Recreation Area to set up camp for the weekend camp out. It was a very nice day to be in the mountains. That evening it started to sprinkle but it was warn enough to be out in t-shirts. Doc did some Pine-cone Golfing as I took photos of the cool rainbow. We sat under the pop-up with the propane campfire going into the night. Doc slept in the campervan with me since the tarp was not big enough to keep rain out of his tent. Lucky he did, because around 1 AM we had a thunder and lightening storm. It lasted around 40 minutes and then there was a heavy downpour.

On Saturday, May 6th, 2017, volunteers and Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) met up at our camp for the clean up. At 9:30 AM groups headed out. Two groups in ORVs headed out to replace Green Dot markers and pick up trash. Selah Cub Scout Pack 276 headed out to pick up trash from BBQ Flats to and through Cascade Camp.

Around 3:30 PM all the groups meet back up at BBQ Flats with the trash and tools for the DNR to take back to the Ahtanum Guard Station.

The campers had dinner and enjoyed the campfire. The wind made it a cold night.

Sunday was a very nice day. Everyone packed up and headed home.

This was a great time takes to all who came out.
