Once back at the parking area the family loaded up in the rig as I talked with Deputy Sutliff from the Yakima County Sheriff”s Office about some Yakima/Kittitas Forest Watch Association stuff.

We headed out and decided to go check out some of the area. Our first stop was at Raven Roost. The clouds covered Mt. Rainier so the view was not as great as it could have been.

It was cold at Raven Roost so only Monster and I got out.

We headed back down the mountain and stopped to let the kids run.

After a short break we headed on down.

We swung through Long Meadow came to fine most campers were gone and some left their campfires burning.

The Forest Service was there putting them out.

Next we headed toward Little Bald Mountain. On the way was saw a lot of elk.

At the old Little Bald Mountain lookout location we could see Mt. Rainier.

We let the kids out at the cabin where it was safer.

After a short time we headed on down toward home. This was a great day.

A small cut was needed here.

A light dead tree had to be moved.

We hit snow pretty low.

A few cuts and the trail was clear.

We moved up the trail and found the snow drifts were getting big. We walked up the trail and saw the snow was real deep on the next off camber section. Here is looking back down where we stopped.

Nice view of the Yakima Valleys.
Photos: 4W613 Louie Way Gap to Upper Meadow Work Party 83

On up the Strobach Mountain Trail there was a lot of trash we picked up. I came across a new by-pass in a wet area because people were too lazy to move a small dead tree from the trail. As I was moving the tree two TJs used the by-pass to drive around me. We believe these are the people who made to by pass in the first place.

At 4W613 we had to stop to removed the signs to repaint them.

Heading toward Dome Peak we found a real big tree down and a new by pass.
Looks like from the same two TJ’s since the fresh tire tracks stopped in the snow just up the trail.

The climb up to the Upper Meadow was covered with snow. I had to winch up the steep climb and then hit a stump climbing the boulders.

We stopped at the Upper Meadow to regroup.

Havo found his frame was broke.

Photos: 4W613 Louie Way Gap to Upper Meadow Work Party 102

At the bottom of the steep climb Havo had to add a block since the log was still moving.

Havo reset the block and we headed down to Nasty Creek Corrals to air up.

Once aired up Havo and I drove to Test Dummy’s house in Tampico to drop off his rig so he could go get his trailer.

This was a great work party run. A total of 153 volunteer hours were logged for the DNR on this day.

We will have to wait until the snow melts to clear the rest of the trail. We hope we do not find any more new by passes.

Photos: Selah’s Wednesday Market

Selah’s Wednesday Market
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

Selah’s Wednesday Market
was started June of 2010. Sherry Dawson one of the Market Managers is one of the people working hard to make these events happen. Ms. Dawson tells us the first market day in 2010 they had four vendors and the weather was against them. They did not give up their plans to have a community gathering once a week all summer where friends and neighbors could visit and share the produce and crafts of local farmers and artisans. This year on the first Wednesday Market they had 18 vendors. They expect more as produce in the valley ripens. As for future plans they would like to out grow their current location and move to the local park where they can have other activities that would involve more of the community.

The Market is held every Wednesday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM through September 29th 2011 at King’s Row 210 S. 1st Street Selah, WA. Here is a link to their web site: http://selahwednesdaymarket.wordpress.com/

Here are a few photos we have taken on our visits there in June 2011:
