On November 10th, 2007, Irishscout wanted to take a short run since he was in back in town. Yeti rode shotgun with him. Hoss and my family met up at the church at Tampico with them.

We headed up the North Fork Ahtanum. We looped up the Green Dot trail by Dead Horse Flats and back onto the North Fork Ahtanum. We turned on the Blue Lake Trail, then 4W615 and stopped at Blue Lake.

Next we climbed up to the Blue Slide Lookout. We headed by out on Jackass Road. We hit a little more snow in the trees as we headed down. On the way Irishscout lost his heater core. He did some ghetto fab and got the rig down to Tampico for some coolant. Irishscout added some coolant and we were on our way back to Yakima.

This was a fun short run.

On the Looking for Snow at the Ahtanum run we saw a big tree had fallen and was blocking trail 4W613 but did not have a big enough chainsaw to cut though it. So on November 4th, 2007 we made a special trip up with bigger saws to cut the down tree and save meadows that were being used for by-passes.

We headed up with two rigs by the way of Doe Pocket and then Jackass Road. We took 4W613 to where the tree was down just before the deep woods. It was good we came up to clear the trail on that day. There were by-passes all over. Lucky they were mostly on top of the snow so there was minimal damage. In the spring the by-passes would have been bad with the snow melting and the ground being soft.

Scottd3004 and Test Dummy ran the saws as Helper-Boy and I cleared the trail. The Tweety Jeep helped drag the big stuff. We also moved some logs to block the other part of the main by-pass across the meadow. People would not have know to turn if we didn’t because you can not see what way the trail goes with snow on the ground.

We headed back out to Jackass Road and decided since it was a nice day to run out though Blue Lake. We stopped at the Blue Slide Lookout Shelter on the way down. We went down 4W615 and then passed a guy fishing on the bank of Blue Lake. On the way out the Blue Lake trail was saw a lot of random trees cut down. At the top of Gate Keeper Hill, Scottd3004 ran into the same stumps a lot of us have hit since the loggers cut the trees down last year. You can not see them as you go over. Scottd3004’s rig took on a little damage as many other have from them this year.

We said that was enough and cut the two stumps lower. As Scottd3004 and Test Dummy cut on the stumps, helper-Boy and I clear some of the broken junk off the trail.

The stumps are still sticking up but not near as high. We packed up and headed home. We did a quick stop at Tampico to air up.

Thanks for the help guys!

Naches Pass 4×4 Trail Newbie Run
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road
Run call by Ron Palstring AKA Icesis of All Wheelers Off Road Club
By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On Saturday November 3rd, 2007 “89 yota” and I drove over Pyramid Pass. We met up with two west side members (Icesis & Barbie) and a guest (Carmen) on FS70.
This run was set up for the people that were new to wheeling to get some trail time. This was the first time for two ladies to drive their own rigs on the trail. Carmen in the blue Toyota pickup & Barbie in the TJ.

We met on FS70 and found a place to air down. We first ran Naches Pass Trail up to the Government Meadows Cabin parking area at Pacific Crest Trail and then headed back down the way we came up to be easy on the newbies. On the way down we ran into another group going up. I met a wheeler in a nice old Jeep that had seen the Tweety Jeep on the net. I believe his name was Brad.

We turning on Pyramid Pass and ran to the east side. On the east side we turned east onto Naches Pass Trail AKA 4W684. We got a few photos a long the way to FS1913. Brad’s group caught up to us so we pulled over and let them pass, then near FS1913 we passed Brad’s group taking a break.

At FS1913 we left Naches Pass and ran FS19 to FS1902, then up to Ravens Roost where we were hoping for some snow. There was no snow at Ravens Roost, it was just real cold!

We headed back down. We regrouped at Crow Creek Campground and then headed to Whistling Jacks where we parted ways.

This was a fun run thanks to the people that came. The newbies all did well on the trail. No carnage (yet). We hope to get them to wheel with us again.

Blue Lake Halloween 4×4 Run

On Saturday, October 27th, 2007, we did a short run up to Blue Lake at the Ahtanum State Forest before the Halloween Party.

We met up at the Ahtanum Sno-park and aired down. We headed up the North Fork Ahtanum Road. We didn’t see any snow until the Blue Lake Trailhead. On 4W615 (Divide Ridge West) dropping down to Blue Lake the trail was covered with snow. There wasn’t much snow at Blue Lake. The lake had a ice cap over it. We took a break and the kids played. My dog Sierra was walking on the lake. We were thankful the ice did not break.

After a short time we moved on. We drove down 4W621 (Blue Slide) for a look. We turned onto 4W622 and drove a little ways. We turned around in a rocky area. Test Dummy got hung up on a rock. Coming back onto 4W621, Test Dummy had some pulley issues so Tiny follow him out the North Fork Road.

Phantom 309, Fatboy and myself headed up 4W615 to the Blue Slide Lookout. We was a plane flying below Dome Peak.

We headed down Jackass Road. We stopped to take a look down 4W637 (Short & Dirty). I stopped at the Gray Rock trail crossing for a short break and waited for the others.

On down Jackass Road there were hunters every where. We were stopped by two Game Wardens. They were looking for loaded rifles. We did not have any so they let us drive on.

We parted ways at the pavement so people could go get ready for the Halloween Party at the Graham’s in Yakima.

This was a fun run thanks to the people that came along. It was a great Halloween Party too!

99 call an Eastern Washington Off Road 4×4 Run at the Ahtanum State Forest to get some photos of the Dome Peak Fire Area covered in snow.

On Saturday, October 20th, 2007, we met up at Nasty Creek Corrals and aired down. We headed up Nasty Creek Road and turned onto the Strobach Mountain 4×4 Trail. It wasn’t to far in until we hit snow. The Tweety Jeep caught a lot of snow from the low tree branches.

It was really cold up on 4W613. We stopped to let Fatboy lead the way up the hill climb below the 4W613 Upper Meadow. That didn’t work so well. I tried to go around him and almost ate a tree with the drives side of the Tweety Jeep. Fatboy backed up and took another run at the hill. That still didn’t work to well. We worked our way around Fatboy. BecauseSheLetsMe came close to Fatboys TJ passing him. Colemancooler did well on the climb with his siped Swampers. BecauseSheLetsMe crawled up the hill since he was lock on both ends. He said it was the Iroks at 5 lbs. His carb wasn’t working to well though. Test Dummy did well running open. The TrXus MTs seem to grab well at 8 lbs. I aired down a little more to 7 lbs. That helped my MT/Rs grab. Fatboy also aired his MT/Rs down to 7 lbs. He did have to winch back onto the trail.

We made the climb up to the 4W613 Upper Meadow. It was a real nice view of the Yakima Valleys. We headed on to the Dome Peak Fire area for 99’s photos.

We turned around at the Dome Peak Fire Area after taking some nature photos for 99. We did not to keep going since it was to late to have a winch fest on the next hill climbs.

We ran into Phantom 309’s group coming up from Louie Way Gap. They were doing some rig repairs as we were heading back out the Strobach Mountain 4×4 Trail.

We drove back down to Nasty Creek Corrals and aired up for home.

This was a fun run thanks to the people that came along.
