On the evening of Friday, August 4th, 2007, members of the All Wheelers Off Road Club came out to Ceg Ranch in Gromore to help set up for the next day’s event. They had a little fun playing on the RTI Ramp.

On Saturday around 9 AM we met up in Wiley City for the West Valley Parade and Fair. The parade start about 9:30. Fatboy was in it for Eastern Washington Off Road.

After the parade we went to see the farm animals at the Wiley City Rodeo Grounds. The kids had a lot of fun.

After we looked at the animals we headed to Ceg Ranch for some fun. The kids went swimming and the bigger kids played with their rigs in the back yard.

This day had good food, good drinks and just a lot of fun.

Ahtanum ORV Trails Clean Up

UPDATE: The part of the Blue Lake Trail we logged out has been closed due to Bull Trout in the area even though that part was not near any creek. You must use the new wide logging road the Ahtanum Irrigation District put in.

On Saturday July 28th we meet up at the Ahtanum Sno-park for the ORV trails clean-up we hosted with cooperation from the DNR.

We had 14 volunteers from Eastern Washington Off Road, mostly from the All Wheelers Off Road Club and 3 DNR employees helping on this clean-up.

After a briefing we split into groups and hit the trails. A few of us cleaned up the logging mess left on the Blue Lake 4×4 Trail in the Ahtanum Irrigation District section. We re-Green Dotted the trail. There were a few trees that had fallen across the first part of the trail that we moved. We had to add more Green Dot Markers because of all the skidder trails everywhere. People were going the wrong way.

Where the Blue Lake Trail merges onto 4W615 we reused two of the broken Green Dot markers and added one new one to show the way down toward the North Fork Road. At time point Fatboy and Laura heading off to clean-up Blue Lake. We headed back down the Ahtanum North Fork Road to go clean the trails on Whites Ridge.
As we came down the mountain we ran into some heavy traffic. Cows blocking the road.

We turned off the North Fork Ahtanum Road onto McLaine Canyon Road. That is where we started our Whites Ridge clean-up. We turned up the Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail and ran it to the top. We stopped at the Mount Rainier View Point for lunch and then headed back down Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail. Near the Make-out Hill Trail, Hercules and Monster replaced a Green Dot Marker. On the way down we reburied a few of the old markers people had broken off.

We meet back at camp around 5 PM. Hoss took a load of trash to the dumpster in he Bronco while 99 cooked burgers for the volunteers. The volunteers that stayed for dinner were happy.

We had a lot of fun cleaning up the trails. The volunteers put in 9 hours each and this helps with funding. Thank you for all that could help.

“Wild Winger!” Naches Pass 4×4 Run

UPDATE: The west end of the 4×4 trail has been blocked off from FS7065 to FS70.

Friday we set up camp at Bear Creek and celebrated Odo’s 1st birthday.

On Saturday July 21st, 2007 we left our camp on the east side around 10 AM with 12 rigs and hit the Naches Pass Trail. Five of the rigs were from the All Wheelers Off Road Club. We stopped to let some dirt bikes pass in the open area after the trail dropped back into the valley. On up the trail around the bridges, we ran into some more traffic. Some where before the long bridge Waycrazy’s CJ5 had a problem. We waited for him and the others at FS1914. Once they got to FS1914, Waycrazy and Fatboy took Waycrazy’s CJ5 back to camp. We headed on up the trail.

We pass more quads and bikes as we climbed. A few rigs here and there. Three guys from PNWJeep.com passed us. I finely got to meet John90XJ.

We stopped at the Pacific Crest Trail. Most walked the trail to the cabin at Government Meadows and ate lunch. Fatboy caught back up with us and had Waycrazy as his co-pilot. (I wonder who out talked who?) The two Samis had to leave. That left nothing but Jeeps so we had to point that out to PullUout since he likes to talk **** about all Jeeps. Long walk?

We moved on down the trail on the west side. We were moving a lot faster than before and making up some time so we could do the trail backwards. Then we ran into a traffic Jam. There were 12 FJ Cruisers not moving very fast and sometimes not at all. They said they had to move logs off the trail. I am guessing they were to big to fit since there were a lot of Jeeps that already had climbed up that way earlier. Right before the steep west side sections, we were stopped and had a long wait for the FJ Cruiser group to go again. Finely the 12 FJ Cruisers turned off before the end of the trail. We had a lot of fun coming down the last part.

We lined up on FS70 for a break and for people hike down to the Naches Cliff. While we were there, OilSlick climbed back up the last part and tried the tight part. KarlVP drove up the drop off. I missed the front tire off the ground photo. Test Dummy followed KarlVP up the drop off. OilSlick had a tough time making the tight turn. He lost his driver side mirror on a tree. After they were done with the hill climbs we ran Pyramid Pass back over to camp. Some of the guys had to go home. The rest of us had a great visit around the campfire.

On Sunday most headed home leaving only two XJs. Test Dummy and I took the family exploring. We headed back to SR410, then up FS1708 (Milk Creek Road) looking at places. We stopped to where they made the road into a trail since the road sank.

Next we headed back down FS1708 to SR410. We ran SR410 back onto FS19 and then headed up FS1901 checking places where the 4W676 (Kaner Flat Trail) crossed Forest Service Roads. We heard many horror stories about this trail. We ran a few small section of 4W676 up the ridge to see how bad the trail was. The mud holes were dry but some were so deep, the ground level was above our hoods. A lot of deep holes at the end of bridges and deeper than what the bridge was put there for. We must have drove around the bad section on the FS1901 & FS1915 but made it as far as Lily Pond. After a short break we ran 4W676 down a little. We ran 4W676 down hill for aways and then jump on FS1901 than out FS1903 to FS19 and back to camp to pack for home.

I want to thank all of you that came out on this run. It was a fun run with a lot of nice people.

AWORC Blue Lake Meeting & Camp Out

Our club decided to have our July meeting at Blue Lake and wheel there. So on Saturday July 14th, 2007 we left with nine rigs from Ceg Ranch in Gromore around 11 AM and headed for the Ahtanum State Forest by the way of Summitview Road and then Cowiche Mill Road. We aired down at the parking area at the end of the pavement of Cowiche Mill Road. Miles up Cowiche Mill Road, we turned up C1000.

Up on Cowiche Ridge, Fatboy and Colemancooler broke off from our group and ran the Strobach and 4W613 trails. We went to Nasty Creek Corrals and up Doe Pocket. On up the trail we turned onto Jackass Road and followed it to 4W615 where we dropped down to Blue Lake.

Hercules, Bobstar and Luna met us at Blue Lake by coming up from the Ahtanum North Fork Road. Fatboy and Colemancooler drop down from Foundation Ridge after running 4W613. We set up camp and the stuff for dinner and what a great BBQ potluck dinner it was. Demontang, Bobstar, Luna, Fatboy and Colemancooler headed home. The rest of had some cold ones and BSed until around 2 AM.

Around 5:30 AM the mosquitoes started biting. They woke up the kids and we didn’t get the kids back to sleep until around 7AM. I got up around 8 AM and put on the coffee. I forgot to bring a cup and had to drink coffee out of wine cooler bottle. Scuba and Co-pilot headed home. BSLM cooked biscuits in his Dutch ovens and 99 cooked the bacon and eggs on the gas stoves.

After breakfast we headed out. BSLM headed for home. We head on around the Darland Loop. At Eagle Nest we stopped to use the out house. This is something we had not seen for over 24 hours. Talk about roughing it.

We head down to the Ahtanum Sno-park, up A2400, A2420 and got onto the Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail. On the way we ran into PUO at Red Saddle. We talked for a few and then headed on up to the Rocky Climb. I tried the hard climb but couldn’t get the traction with the tires I was running on the Jimmy. I went up the easier way and 99 followed in the Tweety Jeep. It still was a workout for the Jimmy. Hoss also tried the hard climb but had to take the easier way. Test Dummy’s XJ just walked up the hard climb with ease. Hercules couldn’t make it to the top of the easy climb with his bike because it was to long. He went right up the hard climb like nothing.

On up the trail Hercules and Test Dummy headed down the Ahtanum South Fork Road toward Tampico. We headed on up Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail. The trail was a little tight is places for the full size rigs. This was my first time with a full size on this trail. It was a lot of fun.

We drove on up to the cross above Cultus Hole for the view of the area we use to use that has been closed off to the public by Shawn Monty Lumber Company. Since the area just past the cross is now closed, we turned around a headed back down. We turned off the trail onto the Ahtanum South Fork Road toward Tampico. Near the end of the dirt part of the Ahtanum South Fork Road we stopped to say our good byes to Hoss.

This was a very fun weekend. Thanks to all the members that came to make this a great All Wheelers Off Road Club run.

On Friday July 6th, 2007 we meet up at Tree Phones Camp Ground around sunset to set up camp.

Saturday morning three of us (Bobstar, Ceg and Test Dummy) from All Wheelers Off Road Club headed out on quads to “Do the Dew”. On the way up to Darland Mountain I stopped to take some photos of the view. We could see Mount St. Helens which we don’t get to see very often. You could see Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and Mount Jefferson.

The next stop was at Blue Lake for a break and a photo. Then we ran 4W615 up to FS1020 and on down to 4W613. We stopped for photos at the top of 4W613 and then again at Strobach Springs. We stopped for a break at Louie Way Gap. We found the 4W613 sign was removed from the trail heading to Jumpoff. We did see new “no quads” and “no jeeps” signs nailed to a tree.

We turned around and headed back up 4W613, climbing the steepest part of the trail. At the top of that climb is a great place for a view of Rimrock with Mount Rainier in the back ground. You could see Jumpoff Lookout from there across Louie Way Gap. Looking off Divide Ridge, you could see Long Lake below Louie Way Gap. There were people down there. On up the trail after the off camber area we took another break. I took a few photos of Divide Ridge and Rimrock Lake.

Moving on down to the Grey Rock Trail intersection, I took a few more photos. At the top of the loose hill climb near the cattle guard I took a few more. We rode on back to Tree Phones and had dinner. We rested around the campfire with a few cold ones.

Sunday we had more All Wheelers Off Road Club members & Eastern Washington Off Road forum members come up for the all ORV part of the run. Around 10 AM, we headed up to Darland Mountain. We stopped on Darland Mountain for the great view. Next stop was Blue Lake.

At Blue Lake we split up into different groups. Our headed back to Tree Phones to pack for home by the way of North Fork Ahtanum Road, then crossed Whites Ridge on McLain Canyon Road, then up the Mid Fork Ahtanum Road to Tree Phones. On the way we stopped at Snow Cabin and then the North Fork Ahtanum Creek at McLain Canyon to cool down.

This was a real fun run and the weather was great.
