Due to the closed signs on the Mid Fork Ahtanum we decided to see if the other roads and trails where open. So on April 9th, 2007 BSLM came and picked me up in his Blazer and we headed up.

We made it up to the Grey Rock Trailhead (the snow level) on the North Fork and did not see any closed signs. Next we headed up Jackass. We turned around at the snow level which was at A2320. Next we took A2400 over Sedge Ridge. We never saw a closed sign on those Roads/Trails.

In Tampico BSLM had to add some airing after his wheeling trip.

Next we headed up to BSLM’s land from Nasty Creek and out the other side near Cowiche Mill Road. There were a lot of elk grazing. We ran Cowiche Mill and came back out Nasty Creek.

This was a real fun trip even though I yelled “Dude, there’s a cliff” once as we were sideways in the snow.

99’s Ahtanum Run
Hosted by 99 & Eastern Washington Off Road
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / CegPics.com

99 called a run to get out of the house. She wanted to see if we could make it up to Tree Phones.

On April 7th, 2007, Tiny met us for the run at Ceg Ranch and Test Dummy rode with him. Near Slavin Road the Tweety Jeep started smoking. We found out we had ATF coming out the filler tupe. We had a sharp bend in one of the tranny cooler lines and thought that could be the problem so we by passed the bend. We made it to the church in Tampico before she started smoking again. We added more ATF and let the rig run awhile and all was fine. As we were checking out the Tweety Jeep, Krazy Gimp was passing by and stopped. He said he would run up to the Ahtanum with us. The Tweety Jeep started smoking again on the way up. I just slowed down and she stopped smoking. At the Sno-park we dropped into low range thinking that it would be less work on the tranny. That seem to be the fix. Trail Rated, not road worthy.

We headed up the Mid Fork Ahtanum road and the road was clear up to Tree Phones. At Tree Phones the snow was deep. I tried to drive around the campground loop and got stuck. Tiny pulled the Tweety Jeep out with his CJ5’s 8274 Warn Winch. We stopped in a camp site to let the kids play some. Leaving Krazy Gimp and I both got stuck. Tiny liked using his winch.

The roads above Tree Phones were closed, so we ran up the Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail. We hit snow right above the Whites Ridge Loop Trail. We made it up to the steepest climb on the Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail.

Krazy Gimp had to get going so we turn a round and headed down the ridge. We tried to take the Whites Ridge Loop trail on the north face but the snow was deep. We didn’t have enough day night to winch so we turned around. Krazy Gimp got stuck climbing back out. Tiny’s winch was pulling his CJ5 down the hill as he was winching Krazy Gimp. We used the Tweety Jeep to keep the CJ5 from being pulled.

We headed to Sno-park and met up with IF and Build-not-bot. We sat around their camp fire as Test Dummy ran home for the Truck and Trailer to haul the Tweety Jeep home. That gave us some time to visit so it worked out good. Everyone thinks the Tranny vent tube is plugged up on the Tweety Jeep. We will check that out this week.

ORV Play Day at Ceg Ranch
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road/Ceg Ranch
By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On Saturday March 31st, 2007, we had many come to our free community event, Eastern Washington Off Road ORV Play Day at Ceg Ranch in Gromore, Washington. It was held in Ceg Ranch’s Field of Dreams Arena which use to be used for the Gromore Children’s Rodeo.

Since it was a free play day, people had a chance to run over cars with their 4×4 rigs, Flex out on the RTI Ramp, and compete in the 4×4 Tug-A-War sponsored by Ron Dunn Jr. with 4WheelingPlus.com.

This was a very fun day of play in our back yard thanks to all the volunteers and the people that came to play.

Getting Ready for the ORV Play Day

We had volunteer work days through the month of March 2007 at Ceg Ranch to get ready for a ORV Play Day in the Field of Dreams Arena.

I had a lot of old scrap metal from convener belts use at the old Gromore Packing House. They were in a barn on some land I bought. We use it a long with pieces from my old silo to build a RTI Ramp (Ramp Travel Index) for the event. People brought over tools to build it. Some donate other things toward the project.

TestDummy and some other had some junk vehicles they donated to be ran over.

Here are some photos of some work and a lot of testing/Playing:

Exploring Juniper Dunes ORV Area
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road
By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On Saturday March 17th, 2007, we convoyed from Yakima to Juniper Dunes, which is Northeast of Pasco, Washington to explore the ORV area. Some others from Eastern Washington Off Road and All Wheelers Off Road Club met us there around 10 AM.

We had a great time exploring with rigs, ATVs and dirt bikes. We did not get to see the whole area so we hope to come back soon.

NOTE: Access to Juniper Dunes ORV Area has been closed many times by land owner. Please do not ride through their fields! Slow it down when passing homes and other vehicles on the road in.
