On Friday June 9th, 2006, we headed up to Tree Phones at Ahtanum camp for the weekend and to give a 4×4 trail tour to some that had never been there.

On Saturday morning there was a good turnout of rigs for the run. We first ran Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail and then Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail. After playing on the Rocky Climb, some of the group headed home. The rest went on up Sedge Ridge into the snow, then followed Sedge Ridge the other direction to take in the views over Tampico.

That night with only 3 Jeeps left, we went night snow wheeling on Whites Ridge late into the night. That was a blast!

Sunday morning we did a short run up to Eagle Nest and then headed for home.

This was a good weekend wheeling and meeting new people.

On Saturday June 3rd, 2006, we headed up to the Ahtanum to run the Strobach 4×4 Trail to Strobach Mountain for the view of Rimrock.

Once on the trail stuff started to happen to the rigs. To sum it up fast; Waycrazy’s CJ5 overheated, had an electric issue and broke a rear u-joint where he had to drive it out in front wheel drive with welded front gears. Test Dummy broke out a rear side window, got some dents and had a flat. I came very close to putting a hole in the sidewall of the front drivers tire with a tab root of a down tree. Lucky my new MTRs have 3 ply sidewalls.

Mother’s Day ORV Camp Out
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road
Report & photos by Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On Friday May 12th, 2006, the All Wheelers Off Road Club members met up at the Ahtanum Sno-park to camp for Mother’s Day weekend and to hit the ORV Trails.

On Saturday we hit the ORV Trails on Sedge Ridge. We ran up to Red Saddle and then onto the Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail. The snow was deep in the shaded areas and I got stuck. Test Dummy hooked up to pull me out. Well that didn’t work to well because I was stuck good. Tiny had to hook his XJ up to Test Dummy’s XJ to get my XJ out. I got out and turned around, we ran the Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail back to Red Saddle. We took A2400 over to the South Fork A1000 at ran it up until the snow got to deep and to soft to go any father. We meet a group of quads that couldn’t make it though. That is when we headed back to Red Saddle headed down the Sedge Ridge Ridge Road toward Tampico. At the end of the ridge we took in the views. You could see Pine Mountain Fire Lookout Tower across the way.

Next we run up to Tree Phones and wheeled in the snow as far as we could go. Next we headed down the Mid Fork and then ran the McLain Canyon Road to the Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail. We ran Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail up only a little ways because the snow got deep fast. We turned around and ran the Whites Ridge 4×4 Trail all the way down to the Mid Fork and then went back to camp for the night.

Sunday morning after breakfast we headed up the North Fork to just past Snow Cabin Camp Ground. The snow was real deep on one side and it was pushing us off the road into the ditch because of the slant. To Tread Lightly we turned around so we would tear up the road. We got turned around and then ran the North Fork down to the McLain Canyon Road. We almost made it it the top of Whites Ridge from the north side, but the snow got to soft to continue. I think this was the last switch-back on the McLain Canyon Road before you get to the top of Whites Ridge. We turned around again and headed down to the paved road and then ran Jackass Rd until the snow got deep on Foundation Ridge. We went back to the Sno-park and loaded up for home. This was a great run with a lot of fun in the snow and sun.

On Friday Saturday March 31st, 2006 we headed to Moses Lake Sand Dunes to camp for the weekend on have some ORV fun in the sand.

We pulled in just before dark. We were not sure where to camp so we pulled off of Sand Dune road at the first fire pit we saw. I stuck the motor home in the sand. We off loaded the XJ off of the trailer and pulled the motor home out. We parked there with backing up the 2 wheel drive pickup with trailer as far off the road as we could. We parked the Jeep on the other side making triangle around the campfire. Later that night we found we were in the middle of a Mad Max movie. Outside was trucks with open exhaust, loud quads and automatic weapon fire all going off at once for hours. The motor home was rocking from how close they were flying by.

The new morning other people from Eastern Washington Off Road showed up. One guy was lived in Moses Lake and said that 12:01 April 1st was the start of Hell Night and we were in it. A few of us hit the sand dune while others were waiting for friends to show. We made it out to the Yellow Zone boarder and worked our way back. Not very far from the Yellow Zone, I lost a rear u-joint on my XJ. We bungeed the rear drive-line up since we could not pull it without loosing transmission fluid. The quads went ahead looking for the easiest way back out. We only had a few hills that were challenging with only having from wheel drive and a drive-line beating up the bottom of the Jeep.

Back at camp it was raining hard. Some others showed up with dirt bikes and 4×4 rigs. I They all went out after the rain stopped.

Sunday morning my cousin Ginger and her family came out to see us with a new u-joint for the XJ. We had a good visit and then headed back home to Yakima through the Yakima River Canyon.

This was a fun time other than the Mad Max part.
