New Year’s Day
Wenas Wildlife Area Snow Wheeling

Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road

By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

Around 10:00 AM Saturday January 1st 2022 we convoyed with two Jeeps from the Graham Family Farm in Selah to the Sheep Company Road entrance of the Wenas Wildlife Area and aired down.

After airing down we headed up Durr Road and then over to the Umtanum Ridge towers. The view was great. Mount Rainier and the Steward Mountain Range were lite up with sunshine.

Next we head northwest on Umtanum Ridge to the end. Along the way we found a few challenging areas of deep snow. Over all it was pretty easy going. At the northwest end of the top of Umtanum Ridge we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we dropped down to McCabe Road and stopped to see the Eagles in the trees. As we were there, a herd of Elk came through.

We drove to the end of McCabe and then back tracked to head down to North Wenas Road. Once we hit the pavement we did not bother to air up since the road was covered with snow most of the way back to Graham Family Farm.

New Year’s Day Wenas Wildlife Area Snow Wheeling Trip
Hosted by Eastern Washington Expeditions
10AM on Saturday January 1, 2022

Eastern Washington Expeditions is hosting a Backroads Snow Wheeling trip in the Wenas Wildlife Area on Saturday January 1st 2022.

This event is free but there are a limited number of rig spots available. So it is on a first-sign up basis after Club Members. We have a few openings for this event.

The Backroads Snow Wheeling Trip is 10 AM Saturday: This will be a backroads type of trip. Not a hardcore snow wheeling trip. A Discover Pass is required. You must have a working Street licensed 4 wheel drive with some clearance to do this trip. Please have a full tank of fuel, recovery gear, and cold weather gear. Bring a sack type lunch since we may not stop very long at places along the way. Be prepared for mud and snow.

It will depend on the amount of snow there is of where we are going. We may have to backtrack. If there is no snow like two years ago, we will keep going to see the sites.

NOTE: By signing up you are expected to follow the rules of the land and Tread Lightly. The roads/Trails can get soft this time of year. Spinning your tires intentionally on wet surfaces causes damage and is illegal. These actions have caused closures.
