We meet up at the Slab around 11 am on Saturday December 8th, 2007. It was great to see so many Eastern Washington Off Road members come out.

We started off with a group photo but did not get everyone. A few more joined us during the day.

We headed on out and did not make it to far before Bobsracing broke his T-case in his K5 Blazer. He parked it and rode in another K5.

We first hit Flex Canyon. A few rigs in the group followed the Tweety Jeep through. BenW making Flex Canyon look easy. Lil sami came close to flopping over backwards climbing the wall. His hitch saved him.

Next we headed over to Power Pole Canyon. Two rigs didn’t make it that far. Blackdog’s Ranger broke a front hub and this Blazer (I can remember his name) got stuck. Fraidenburg winched Blackdog up the hill. Blackdog took his rig out to the parking area and then rode with BenW. Scumby winched the Blazer out.

Next we hit some of the climbs in the middle of the ORV area and then went on over to Roll Over Hill.

BenW wanted to climb the hard part of Roll Over Hill. I pointed where it was. BenW climbed the hill on a hard line but not the one I meant. I told him that was the wrong line. You should have seen the look on Blackdogs face. BenW then said show were it is because he wanted drive up it. The look on Blackdog’s face then was of someone getting the extra pucker factor. I drove over and show BenW where the line was. He climbed it and made it look easy until the top. His rig was searching for traction and did top the hill after a little hoping. I am not sure how Blackdog was doing.

No one else wanted to climb Roll Over Hill. We drove over to the next canyon and did those hill climbs. It got pretty cold quick so we headed on home.

This was a fun little run thanks to all that came out. I hope to see more of you come out for the Slab ORV Meet & Greet on February 16th, 2008.

Christmas Tree 4×4 Run

On Saturday, December 1st, 2007, we head to Rimrock with four rigs. Demontang was the trail boss. He took us to two different areas to look at getting the perfect Christmas Tree. Demontang had a few trees to get for he family. The last area we went to, the snow was deep, so we left one of the vehicles by the main road ans the rest of us snow wheeled in. That was a lot of fun. After we got the trees we needed, we headed by out to the main road and parted ways.

This was a great time and we hope to do it again next year.

Thanksgiving 4×4 Snow Wheeling
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road
By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On Saturday, November 24th, 2007, we met up in Tampico for the Thanksgiving Snow run. On this run we had 7 rigs from All Wheelers Off Road Club.

We started the run by heading up the South Fork Ahtanum Road. A short distance from the pavement, we stopped and aired down.

We ran the South Fork Ahtanum to the very end onto the Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail. We were hoping to run in fresh snow as we have in the past this time of year. We were surprised to see so many tire tracks. There were a lot of hunters in the area. Most were riding quads.

We made it to the Duel Climb where only quads had made it past. There was a big tree in the trail in the middle of the right hill climb. The Tweety Jeep got a workout climbing. I slide the Jeep into the down tree as I went around it. I could not back up to get going again so Icesis pulled cable and helped me winch Tweety up the last part of the hill.

Next BSLM came up and made the climb look easy. Test Dummy had to take a few runs at the hill. Waycrazy took a run at the right hill climb as Test Dummy was making a long run on the left climb. Waycrazy crossed in the middle of the climb from the right to the left in front of Test Dummy’s run. Test Dummy had no choice but to just towards the right lane so he did not run into Waycrazy’s CJ5. Test Dummy’s Blazer did not make it a cross. He lost two tires off their beads. WayCrazy also did not make it to the top of the climb and had to winch up.

Scuba came up with his XJ with his on board air to help Test Dummy, well trying to. Scuba keep getting caught on some stumps. Scuba just went on to the top of the hill to hold the Blazer from moving. The guys work on rebeading the rear tire using BSLM’s CO2.

Fatboy climbs the hill and slides into the same down tree as I did and got carnage. BSLM helped pull cable for Fatboy.

Test Dummy went back down to the bottom and used speed to make it to the top. Icesis was the last to come up. He made it close to the top and then had to winch a few feet.

The next hill climb was just passed the Cultus Hole Trail. I took a run at it with the Tweety Jeep but did not make it that far. BSLM wanted to give it a try. He took a few runs at it and made it close to the top.

We all had to find a place to turn around. We did not want to spend the time getting everyone to the top of this climb because Shawn Monty has the trail closed a little passed the climb anyways.

We moved back down the Sedge Ridge 4×4 Trail and regrouped down where the South Fork Road meets the trail.

We ran the trail toward the Tampico. 99 took over driving right passed the Rocky Climb. We waited there for Scuba to reseat a bead. Once he was done we continued to the end of the trail above Tampico.

The next stop was down at the Sno-park. Most of the rigs head for home. Scuba, Icesis and 99 wanted to run more trails. We ran down the pavement and then up Nasty Creek. There were alot of tire tracks up and over Cowiche Ridge. We turned off and ran the Strobach Mountain 4×4 Trail. 99 had a lot of fun on that trail because of the tight trail and all the snow. Near the end of the trail, Scuba lost another bead. He was ready to head back.

We headed down Cowiche Ridge. Scuba let Co-pilot drive and somehow he lost a bead on Scuba’s XJ. Scuba is now looking to buy some weld on bead locks.

We continued out Cowiche Mill Road to go home. We got back to my place around 9 PM. 12 hours from when we left. What a fun day thanks to all that came.

Easy Ahtanum 4×4 Trip
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road
Run called by Lisa Graham AKA “99”
By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On November 17th, 2007 we headed out for an easy run for 99 so she could get use to wheeling her XJ. It was also Test Dummy’s birthday and he wanted to wheel too. On this run we had three rigs, BenW, Test Dummy and 99 driving the Tweety Jeep.

We headed up Cowiche Mill Road and then headed up C1300. At the Y to Hatton Road we aired down. The roads up there are rough but we waited for the rain to slow down to air down.

We headed on up Hatton Road and then onto FS1302. It got foggy. We only ran into a few areas that had a little snow. Up towards Jumpoff Lookout it was very cold. We had a little snow mixed in the rain. We stopped at Jumpoff Lookout for a break.

We headed back down FS1302, then C1210 down to Reynolds Creek and back to Cowiche Mill Road. We turned off Cowiche Mill Road, ran C1000 over to Nasty Creek, then ran up Doe Pocket (C5001) and onto Jackass Road (A2300) on Foundation Ridge. It was not very fat before we started running in snow. The snow drifts started getting deep at the log decks and Test Dummy had to air down more to move.

99 enjoyed making new tracks in the snow as we moved up the ridge. The snow drifts were deeper farther up we went and it was hard to see where the trail was. We stopped at Blue Slide Lookout.

It was getting dark so we headed down 4W615 toward Blue Lake. Coming off the top of the ridge down the mountain was a blast with 99 driving. The trail was no where in sight. She had no idea what way to go so I was yelling, “go left, sharper, turn right, easy left, watch out for that tree” and so on. I am glad she listens good.

At Blue Lake on the upper trail above the lake the trail was off camber because of the snow. 99 slide off the trail sideways. I took over but could not get the XJ back up on the trail. BenW went for it and went sideways too. I dropped down to the lake and followed the shore and Test Dummy Followed. BenW started airing down more. After airing down more, BenW made it look easy going crossing that bad snow section above the lake.

99 took the driving back over and we headed out. She had to take a few runs at the Gate Keeper Hill. She finely made it up without hitting anything.

This was 99’s first time driving snow wheeling and she did very well. This run was a lot longer and a lot more miles than planned but I think it was worth it. 99 has a lead foot so we moved a long pretty good all day. She is now ready for Baja racing.

Thanks BenW and Test Dummy for coming and making this a fun run. 99 and I had a blast.
