On Friday January 9th, 2015 Selah Cub Scout Pack 276 had their annual Pinewood Derby at the Selah Civic Center. We did not get that many good photos due to we were helping with the event.

Join the ranks of millions of Cub Scouts who have stood in the derby winner’s circle. Cub Scouts have been building their own cars and competing in Pinewood Derby® events since 1953! At the heart of this event’s success is the process itself – bonds are strengthened as the Cub Scout partners with a parent or adult mentor to design, carve, paint, weigh, refine, and race the car. In addition, Cub Scouts build confidence and take pride in their own growing skills and hard work. So enjoy the ride!

News: Selah Accepted as a Washington State Main Street Community

Selah Accepted as a Washington State Main Street Community

As of Tuesday January 6th, 2015, Selah was officially accepted as a Washington State Main Street Community. Washington State Main Street Program is a comprehensive, incremental approach to revitalization built around a community’s unique heritage and attributes. Using local resources and initiative, the state program helps communities develop their own strategies to stimulate long term economic growth and pride in the heart of the community- downtown. Local businesses can apply for their business and occupation tax to go into this program to help their city.

Selah Downtown Association has been working very hard for a long time to make this happen. Selah Downtown Association is made up of a volunteer board and four volunteer advisory committees; Economic Restructuring, Design, Organization, and Promotion. These volunteers are Selah residents and Selah Business owners.

With Washington State Main Street Program the Selah Downtown Association will be able to help our city projects, events, tourism and much more. Selah Downtown Association meets the second Monday of each month 3:00 PM at Selah City Hall.

Photos: EWA New Year’s Colockum Snow Wheeling Run

On Thursday January 1st, 2015 Eastern Washington Adventures Members met up at Curly’s II in Kittitas, Washington for the annual New Year’s Day Wheeling Run. On this run we had only 2 Jeeps. Foxracer’s TJ and my JK.

Around 10 AM we convoyed to Colockum Road and aired down at the parking area near the edge of the forest.

We moved on up Colockum Road following a group from Off-Camber.com. We past a few and got mixed in with their group.

During one of the breaks, we saw some snowmobilers taking photos of the rigs and harassing the guys wheeling. We talk to some of the wheelers, they said the snowmobilers were yelling at them saying they could not be there with rigs and they were turning us in. That is too bad those snowmobilers cannot get along with other type recreationalist. We know for a fact we have the right to drive in the snow a long Colockum Road (a Kittitas County road) and any Green Dot Roads that are not groomed. Snowmobilers turn us in on our Colockum 4×4 Snow Run on Feb 26 2011. I talked to the DNR over them turning us in from that run. Mike Williams, the Recreation Manager of the Naneum Ridge State Forest said in the snow we just needed to track the roads and we would be legal as long as we did not travel cross county or cause resource damage.

We dropped out of the Off-Camber group at Halfway Station and took a break. As we were there, we heard a loud 2 stroke snowmobile cross through the Coffin Game Reserve. It sounded like the one that was with the snowmobilers taking photos of us. I believe it is illegal to even ride snowmobile in the Coffin Game Reserve. Maybe they should turn themselves in. 🙂

After the break at Halfway Station, we back tracked down Colockum Road. A long the way, Foxracer’s right rear tire came halfway off the rim. In no time they had the tire back on and aired up.

At the power lines we tried to take Road 14 and make our way over and out Parke Creek. Well the snow drifts were to deep and dry snow where we could not get up on top. We turned around and head back down Colockum Road toward the Valley.

We aired up where we had aired down that morning. We dropped off one of the riders in Kittitas. Since Curly’s was closed, we then headed across the valley to Durr Road. We took Durr Road over to Selah back to the EWA Club House. After dropping the kids over, we had dinner at the T & T Lounge in Selah.

This was a very fun event and a great day.

On the evening of Thursday December 18th, 2014 the Selah Chamber of Commerce had a Business After Hours get together. The event was hosted at and by Nana Kate’s.

Nana Kate’s had appetizers and door prizes. There was tastings from AntoLin Cellars, and Swede Hill Distilling from Yakima.

The Selah Chamber of Commerce had a 50/50 raffle.

This was a very fun event. Thank you Nana Kate’s!

EWA Family Sledding 4×4 Run

Report & photos by Clay Graham / CegPics.comOn Sunday December 14th, 2014 Eastern Washington Adventures Members met up at Highland Quick Stop in Cowiche, Washington for the annual Sledding 4×4 run. On this run we had 3 Jeeps (1 JK, 1 TJ and a XJ) and a Toyota truck.

Around 10 AM after fueling up, we convoyed to the parking area at the end of the pavement of Cowiche Mill Road. We aired down and headed on up the gravel of Cowiche Mill Road into the Ahtanum State Forest. We turned up C-1000 and made our way up onto Cowiche Ridge. We took a break at what was our sledding hill on the first ever sledding run in 2006.

After the break we moved on up Cowiche Ridge and onto the Strobach Mountain 4×4 Trail. We took another break just pass the Hog Back on top of the rock climb. This section was a little hairy with the off camber and the snow on the rocks.

Next we headed up to the Strobach Mountain Vista for the view of Mount Rainier and Rimrock Lake. The view was great. The breeze made it a little cold.

We next headed back down and found a place in the trees to sled that was out of the wind and safe for the kids. This place we found worked out real well. We were there for awhile having fun talking and drinking coffee as the kids sled.

When the sun started to set, we headed back down the way we came. We aired up at the place we had aired down and then parted ways.

This was a very fun event thanks to all who came.
