We held this year’s “Do the Dew!” Run on July 4th, 2009. I was not able to ride my quad because of my bad back hurt too much.

Here are the pictures I did get a long with a few on the run we went on.

The quad and bike riders getting ready at Tree Phones.

We decided to head down to the store to get some thing to help our sick 3 year old son.
On the way back we went up the Ahtanum South Fork Road.

We found Hercules’ (one of our members) horses were out running down the road.
We stopped and helped his sister get the horses back home.

Once we got up on Sedge Ridge we added Green Dots to the 6 new markers we had place on the last trail work party.
Photos: EWOR Do The Dew ORV Run 5

We took the Sedge Ridge Crest Trail back down to see if any other repairs were needed.
We headed back to Tree Phones to eat lunch and to get Luna for the next run.

This next run was from Tree Phones to Jackass Road @ the Gray Rock Trail and then back.

We had to time it to see how long it takes to get there since we are doing an aid station for the 50 K runners on July 11th, 2009.

We headed up the Mid Fork Road up onto Darland Mountain.
The views were not bad for how hazy it was.

Mt. Adams

Mt. St. Helens

We dropped off of Darland Mountain and ran into a big snow drift on the North Fork Road.
It was fun crossing the big drift.

Next we headed up the Blue Lake Trail.

Up passed Blue Lake I waited for Luna to climb the hill with her quad.

Here is a picture of Mt. Adams from there.
Photos: EWOR Do The Dew ORV Run 8

We got up on FS1020 and ran it onto Jackass Road to the Gray Rock Trail crossing.
It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there from Tree Phones by the way of Darland Mountain.

We back tracked pass Blue Lake. We did not want to stop there because of the swarms of mosquitoes.

We stopped for a break down the trail before the North Fork Ahtanum Road.
Photos: EWOR Do The Dew ORV Run 9

We ran the North Fork Ahtanum Road down to the Whites Ridge Cross-over trail and back to Tree Phones on the Mid Fork Road.

After dinner we headed back down the Mid Fork Road, up A-2400, A2420, A1490 and then down A1200 (Boulder Trail) to the view point over Tampico.

This is where we watched the firework shows in the valleys below.
Photos: EWOR Do The Dew ORV Run 10

The big fire work shows look small from there but it was a lot of fun for the family.
After the show we went back to Tree Phones to sleep.

The next morning (Sunday) we just could not take the mosquitoes anymore.
The mosquitoes were worse than I have even seen them.

The mosquito repellent products did not stop them from eating us up.
We threw everything in the XJ and camper and headed down to the Ahtanum Sno-park to cook breakfast.

It was hotter there but we did not get one mosquito bite there.

This was a great weekend thanks to the people who came.

Tree Phones Campground Work Party
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

Tree Phones Campground at the Ahtanum State Forest is temporarily closed because of the danger trees, dead lodge pole. The DNR had fallers come in to cut down the dead trees.

On Saturday June 13th, 2009 the Eastern Washington Off Road members and other volunteers went up for the second weekend in a row to work in the Tree Phones Campground to get it reopened. The DNR brought up a chipper to get rid of some of the debris. Volunteers used chain saws to limb the trees and to cut them up to move them out of the camping area. Other volunteers worked to remove the debris.

Thank you to all that came and volunteered to help with the campgrounds maintenance.
We logged another 119 volunteer hours with the DNR for a total of 401 volunteer hours at Tree Phones Campground.

Here are some of the volunteer of the day.

Tree Phones Work Party & Run
Report by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

Tree Phones Campground at the Ahtanum State Forest is temporarily closed because of the danger trees, dead lodge pole. The DNR had fallers come in to cut down the dead trees.

On Friday June 5th, 2009 some of the members headed up to Tree Phones to camp for the weekend work party.

Saturday morning around 9:30 AM more members and other volunteers started rolling in. The DNR brought up a chipper to get rid of some of the debris. Volunteers used chain saws to limb the trees and to cut them up to move them out of the camping area. Other volunteers worked to remove the debris.

Most of the volunteers worked until after 3:30 PM. Some went home and we went wheelin’ after dinner. Here are some pictures of the fun.

Here we are on the North Fork Ahtanum Road waiting for the few we left behind in the dust.

The Blue Lake trail had some deep slush water.
I tried to get around the edge but kept getting pulled in.
Then I had a hard time backing out of the slush water.

It took a few tries but Test Dummy made it.

I ran around to the other side by using the pond trail.
By this time Havo was already up the Blue Lake trail and Test Dummy was pulling Tiny around.

I met Havo up on 4W615 where the snow drifts were huge.

The second one in got me.

Test Dummy made it around me and pulled me on up and over the snow mound I was stuck in.

The next stop was Blue Lake.

There were only Test Dummy’s, Havo’s and my rig there.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 31

My turn to pull Test Dummy out.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 32

We headed back to see what happen to the others.
On the way back out, Hercules and Tiny came down toward the lake. I had to let them pass in this deep water hole.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 33

Next I ran into Nevada coming down.

Nevada giving it hell.

As we were leaving I had to go get stuck.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 38

Blind-Pilot gave me a pull.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 39

After getting back down to the North Fork we headed up toward Darland Mountain to see how far we would get.

There was a cool moon that night.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 40

I made it to the switch back below the Roller coaster trail.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 41

No one else was near where I was. Not a good feeling.
Photos: EWOR Tree Phones Work Party & Run 42

I turned around and headed back. Lucky for me all went well getting back out.
Once I met back up with the group, we all headed back down the North Fork Road.

Along the way we saw some deer and then down the road we saw three young ladies.
They were camping and partying. They flash some of us as we drove by. Talking about wild life. LOL

At McLaine Canyon some headed for home and we headed for camp.

Sunday morning we started work again in the Tree Phones Campground.
It started raining hard around noon. Most of the volunteers were soaking wet and pulled out for home around 2 PM.
We did make a large dent in what needs to be done to reopen the campgrounds.
We still have work to do at Tree Phones.

Thank you to all that came and volunteered to help with the campgrounds maintenance.
We logged 282 volunteer hours with the DNR.

Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

The next morning we headed up Sedge Ridge to do some trail Maintenance.
We ran A-2400 up and turned onto A-2420.

At the top of A-2420 we found a mark was missing so we added a new one.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 44

We next ran the Sedge Ridge Crest Trail toward Tampico.
Not far plast the Boulder Trail we found two big trees had fallen across the Sedge Ridge Crest Trail.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 45

I cut the first tree and Guido pulled it into the by-pass with his TJ.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 46

This second Tree was bigger.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 47

Again I cut the tree and Guido tried to pull the tree into the by-pass.

Here I am getting a different hold on the tree for Guido. (I do not know what my daughter did to the camera when she took this)
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 49

Here we got the two trees moved off the trail.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 50

We ran the trail to the end to make sure nothing else needed to be done.
Here comes Guido.

On the way back we stop for a group picture near the Goat Trail.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 52

We ran the Sedge Ridge Crest Trail on past Red Saddle and up the rocky climb.
I wasn’t sure how the Sami would do but 99 drove it right on up.

Where South Fork Ahtanum Road and the Sedge Ridge Crest Trail meet there were some markers missing.
People on quads were stopped there for a break so we keep going on up the trail.

Right at the top of the Double hill climb the trail was covered with snow. The snow drift was to off camber for me to stay on the trail.
I kept sliding down into stumps. I had to turn around.
The Green Dot markers at the Cultus Hole intersection will have to wait.

Regrouping.

Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 58

We ran back down to the South Fork Road / Sedge Ridge Crest Trail intersection.
The quad riders had moved on. We found one marker was broken and the other two were missing.

Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 66

We also reset an old broken road marker too.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 67

We found the old A-1400 marker fell off the post.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 68

We fixed it with what we had.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 69

We ran on down A-2400 toward the Sno-park.
Near the bottom if the ridge we found someone had drove on top of a Green Dot Marker we just put in two weeks before.
The Green Dot Marker is now broken.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 70

Now back towards camp.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 2 of 2 71

We packed up camp and sit around resting before heading home to the heat.
Here are two pictures during that time.

Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On Saturday May 30th, 2009 some of the All Wheelers Off Road Club members came up to the Sno-park to do some more work on the Green Dot roads and trails.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 75

We first headed up the Mid Fork and then up the Whites Ridge Loop Trail.
At the top of the ridge as the trail turns west we found a broke Green Dot Marker.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 76

As we went along we added some new Green Dots to the markers that had the tops of them broken.

As the trail turned toward the south we found some down fall in the trail.
The members had the trail cleared in no time.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 77

We turned up the Whites Ridge Crest Trail.
At the top of the second climb we had a big tree to remove from the trail.
People had a by-pass around both side of it.

Test Dummy cut the tree.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 78

Fatboy pulled the tree out of the trail with his TJ.

Monster jumped out of the Jeep to move some branches from the trail.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 87

Here we placed two new markers since there was a new logging road pushed in.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 88

Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 89

On up the trail the loggers had a big mess.
I drove up what I think is the trail until I couldn’t stay on top of the snow.
I wanted to be sure this was the trail before we placed a Green Dot Marker. I walked from here.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 90

I found the trail again where the snow is on the left.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 91

We went back down to put the marker in at the start of the logging.

Heading back down.

I was driving the Tweety Jeep.
Here are the other member rigs:

We stopped for lunch at “Norm’s Check Point”.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 97

After lunch we ran down to the Whites Ridge Cross-over trail and headed toward the North Fork Ahtanum Creek Road.

Dropping down the ridge we found one marker missing and another so far in the brush you couldn’t see it.
The volunteers removed the hidden marker and added two new Green Dot markers at this intersection.

These two are finish for now until we get a saw to cut off the top broken part on the old marker.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 103

The Green Dot marker was broken and down at the McLaine Canyon road and the North Fork Ahtanum Creek Road.
We gave it a new Green Dot Marker.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 104

At this point a few members had to leave.
We headed up the North Fork Ahtanum Creek Road to see if we could get the markers done on our adopted Blue Lake Trail.

The open switch back was a challenge to get up.
I made it up and ran on up to see how the trail was as the others worked their way through the snow.
I turned around at the Blue Lake Trail Head.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 105

Havo had made it up but 99 was still at the bottom not doing well with the open diff Sami.
I took the Tweety Jeep down and towed the Sami up.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 106

The next switch back there was a tall snow drift. The Sami had some problems getting up it.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 107

We tried to get it to the top a few different ways with the tow strap.
The last try was me backing it way up and running those mice hard. I leaped it up on top just to get stuck.
I gave 99 her rig back and Havo pulled her on through.
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 108

We ran in snow from there to the Blue Lake Trail.

99 moving well now.

Here is the area where we had to do some marker repair.
A new Green Dot marker here to show the way out.

These two markers will have to be fixed after the snow melts. lol
Photos: EWOR Ahtanum State Forest Green Dot Work Party Part 1 of 2 112

We could not make it up to the top to check on the other marker so we headed back down.

Havo working it.

We headed back down to the Sno-park where some aired up for home and we got the camp fire going for the night.
It was a very warm night.
