Report by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On Sunday October 25th, 2009 some of our members met with ORV Deputy Martin at the Slab ORV area (near Buena Washington) to place a new sign with the ORV rules.

Here are some pictures of the day.

First the sign had to be put on the post.

Halloween Backroads Run at Wenas Wildlife Area
By Clay Graham / CegPics.com

On October 24th, 2009 the All Wheelers Off Road Club had the annual Halloween Run and Costume Party. This year the run was at the Wenas Wildlife Area just north of Selah Washington.

We met up at the Sheep Company Road entrance of the Wenas Wildlife Area around 10 AM and aired down.

We headed up Durr Road. We saw many hunters a long the road. They looked at me as I was a freak. Could it be my Halloween hair? LOL

We stopped at Umtanum Creek we stopped for a break.

After a short break we headed on. At the end of Durr Road we turned up the Ellensburg Pass. A few miles down the gravel road we turned off onto Hanson Pond Road. We drove on up to the Manastash Ridge Observatory.

After a few pictures we headed down Observatory road. Here we are turning on Mud Flat Road. We ran Mud Flats Road, turned on Audubon road and out to the North Fork Wenas Road. Not far down the pavement we turn up Ridge Road.  At the beginning of Ridge Road, we stopped for a snake to cross. Near the top of Umtanum Ridge, we stopped at the last trees so the ladies had a place to go in private.

Moving across the top of Umtanum Ridge the views were great. We past the towers and followed the Umtanum Ridge. We stopped at the end of the Green Dot for a break and to take a look at the view of the Yakima River Canyon below and Baldy Mountain across.

We back tracked to Durr Road and turned south. We went back to the Sheep Company road entrance.

Once we got back down and aired up, some left for home and the others headed to the Club House for the Costume Party.

This easy site seeing run was a lot of fun thanks to all who came. The party was also a good time.

4W613 Sign Replacement Run
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

This story starts back on July 11th, 2009 when the All Wheelers Off Road Cub add new signs on 4W613 at the Gray Rock Trail.
On this day we removed all the old signs at the Dome Peak Trail and at Strobach Mountain to take back home to refinish.
We had to make it fast since the Ahtanum State Forest was on fire at Green Lake. See Tread Here!

The next week Phantom-309 offered to plain the old signs for us. We dropped them off at Helliesen Lumber.

The signs were too far gone to save. Helliesen Lumber donated 14 new treated 2×6 boards for signs and Phantom-309 routered new words on them for us.

Here we are pictures of my wife and I painting them.

At the Strobach Mountain Trail Head we replaced a broken Green Dot Marker with a new one.

Moving up the trail the weather turned bad fast. It got cold, windy and the rain came down hard.

Coming up to the Strobach Mountain Trail and 4W613 intersection.
Photos: EWOR 4W613 Sign Replacement Run 115

We all got wet putting up these signs.
Photos: EWOR 4W613 Sign Replacement Run 116

As we worked the rain and wind seem to get worse. We were now hearing thunder.
Photos: EWOR 4W613 Sign Replacement Run 117

Well they are up but will have to have the paint touched up next summer. The white soaked in.
Photos: EWOR 4W613 Sign Replacement Run 118

Moving up up toward the 4W613 Upper Meadow the trail got real slick.
I got hung up on a big rock at the top of the steep climb but some how was able to get going again after a few tries.

As soon as I topped the climb I found a Jeep coming down the trail.
Photos: EWOR 4W613 Sign Replacement Run 119

The Jeep backed up aways to let me by as the rest of our group found places to pull off to let the Jeep by.

Here we are at the 4W613 Upper Meadow regrouping. We are missing three TJs.
Photos: EWOR 4W613 Sign Replacement Run 120

I got back in the rig to hear TJ40 was winching his way up.

After we regrouped we headed on. Here is a quick picture in the Dome Peak Fire area.

We stopped at the Dome Peak Trail Head to replace the signs. Yes it was still raining.

Well they are up. Looks like only one sign need more white paint. Some of the other need the brown touched up.

This was a very fun run.
On this day we logged 117 volunteer hours with the DNR for the 4W613 signs project.

I want to thank everyone that was part of the 4W613 signs project.
A special thanks to Helliesen Lumber for donating the 2x6s.

Some of the people headed back home and some of us camped.
The night was really cold. My water lines in my camper froze. Some that tent camped left early in the morning.

The rest of us took our time about leaving. Havo’s family headed out next.
Havo Jr came back to tell us that Hwy-410 was blocked by a landslide.
Test Dummy used Barbie’s car to go get gas for his CJ and to find out what was going on.
Whistling Jacks had no power to sell gas and Squaw Rock ran out of gas the car before them.

Test Dummy found Havo and they were planning on wheeling out. Test Dummy planned to go back and get his CJ to follow them.

Test Dummy came back to camp to tell us what he found out. The people he talk to said there was a landslide over Hwy-410 and the river near the Nile.
They said the area was flooding and the only way out was going west over Hwy-410 or to wheel over Bald Mountain.

Jay gave Icesis some gas for his XJ so my wife could drive it over the pass.
I gave Test Dummy some fuel from my XJ for his CJ and some extra for Havo’s group if they needed it.
PHOTOS > EWOR: 2009 “Wagons East!” Naches Pass 4x4 Trip 186

Here we are turning to go to the west side.
PHOTOS > EWOR: 2009 “Wagons East!” Naches Pass 4x4 Trip 187

Cayuse Pass was closed so we had to go all the way around through Enumclaw to get back to Selah.
Test Dummy could not find Havo so he headed west too. We ended up staying with Icesis in Kent.
My son “Doc” had an appointment at Children’s Hospital so it worked out for us.
Test Dummy stayed and followed us across I-90 since he was driving his CJ.

We stopped at Indian John Rest Area to make sure Test Dummy’s CJ was doing ok.
PHOTOS > EWOR: 2009 “Wagons East!” Naches Pass 4x4 Trip 188

This was a great run with plenty of added adventure.
A special thanks to all the people that helped get everyone home.

September 18th through the 20th of 2009, Region 4 of the PNW4WDA held an event called “Pick Up A Mountain” in the Nile area west of Naches in Jim Sprick Park.

Eastern Washington Off Road members meet up at 8 AM Saturday September 19th, 2009. Some members camped and others drove up for the day. Here is “Pick Up A Mountain” from our day at the event.

We aired down and headed up FS1701. Our first stop was at the SF1701/FS530 Camp to pick up trash. We ran into some people that were camp there which already did a good job picking up. They thought this was a great thing the wheelers were doing. We took some of the bigger pieces of trash that they had no room to haul off.
