September 18th through the 20th of 2009, Region 4 of the PNW4WDA held an event called “Pick Up A Mountain” in the Nile area west of Naches in Jim Sprick Park.

Eastern Washington Off Road members meet up at 8 AM Saturday September 19th, 2009. Some members camped and others drove up for the day. Here is “Pick Up A Mountain” from our day at the event.

Everyone signing in with the Shindig Wheelers.

We aired down and headed up FS1701. Our first stop was at the SF1701/FS530 Camp to pick up trash. We ran into some people that were camp there which already did a good job picking up. They thought this was a great thing the wheelers were doing. We took some of the bigger pieces of trash that they had no room to haul off.

Up at the top of FS1701 we turned onto 4W694 at the trail head near Barber Springs Road.

On up the trail we stopped at a camp where last year we hauled off a lot of stuff. Again we found a lot to haul off that was left here over the year.

Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009

Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run – Part II
Report & photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On September 13th, 2009 after the Jeeping Nomads 4×4 Swap meet in Yakima I came home to a hot house. I talked the wife into going for a drive in the 99 XJ that has air conditioning.
We headed out toward the end of the North Wenas Rd. to find the Green Dot road I missed the day before.

We found the entrance near the end of the pavement.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 62

There was no big yellow sign like the other area.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 63

On up around the bend there was a gate.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 64

Working our way up the ridge we found this sign facing the way we just came from.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 65

Up on top of the Umtanum Ridge we could see the Manastash Ridge Observatory.

Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 69

On up the road we found the top of Black Canyon. To bad the road did not still go through.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 70

Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 71

Up near Kelley Hollow Rd. we came up to the back side of a “No unauthorized vehicles” sign.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 72

We were on the Green Dot road so the sign must have been for an old road across the brush.
Wenas Wildlife Area Exploring Run (Part II) – Sept 13 2009 73

We headed on. We dropped down Durr Rd. to the Sheep Company entrance and then headed home.

This was a fun trip. I would like to see this area with snow on it. It would be very challenging.

A special thanks to JayW and SuperGlock for the info on the road I could not find on the first day out.
